  • Tentative Contract Extension Reached with American Airlines
    Posted On: Sep 265, 2024

    September 20, 2024

The Transport Workers Union of America today announced a tentative contract extension featuring raises of 18% to 26%   for more than 34,000 American Airlines AMTs, Fleet Service Workers, Ground Mechanics and other personnel. There are no concessions in the pact.

The agreement, which must be approved by union members, is a two-year extension that goes goes into effect Jan. 1, 2025.

“Our goal was to quickly negotiate a very beneficial settlement and avoid a repeat of the acrimony we had with American in 2019,” Transport Workers Union International President John Samuelsen said.

Highlights of the agreement, negotiated by the TWU-IAM Association, include:

    • Two-year extension beginning Jan. 1, 2025
    • Top-of-scale all-in wage increases range from 12% to 15% on the effective date and 18% to 26% over the life of the extension
    • 3% out-year increases also matches the highest in the industry
    • Several non-economic quality-of-life issues were also addressed as part of these negotiations
    • No concessions/givebacks
    • Covers +34,000 American Airlines Mechanic and Related and Fleet Service employees
    • Agreement must be ratified by the membership

The TWU-IAM Association was formed after the merger of American Airlines and US Airways in 2012. The union alliance made up of members from the Transport Workers Union and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. It is the largest union at the carrier.

Approximately two-thirds of the workers in the association – nearly 23,000 – are members of The TWU. The extension encompasses five different work groups and contracts.
