AIRLINES Flight disruptions ease after FAA outage but questions linger about system outage

Air travel disruptions eased Thursday, a day after a severe pilot safety alert system failure sparked the delay of close to half of U.S. flights. The Federal Aviation Administration halted U.S. flight departures early Wednesday after an outage of the Notice to Air Mission system, which provides pilots and others with safety information such as runway hazards.

                                    President's Message

      Brothers and Sisters,

As we start the new year, I would like to take a minute to thank the people who served the Local over the last three years.  Serving can be a tough job.  You hear a lot of complaining and don't always get a "thank you".  With that being said, I'd like to say thank you to Mike Vacek in DCA.  I'd also like to give thanks to Steve Walegir in ATL.  Their involvement in their cities makes things better for the membership.

All of the elections are complete from Officers to Section Chairman.  The new Section Chairmen are Deborah Crawford in ATL, Mo Achab in CTL and Mike Figarella in DCA. Tim Shea will be staying on as Chairman in MCO and Paul Brown will remain Chairman in BWI.  The current Officers and E-Board remain the same other than Frank Algarin taking the additional E-Board seat.  The Board and I look forward to working with them all.

The attendance arbitration is complete and briefs are due to be filed in February.  My hope is that we have a decision on the case sometime in March.  Members throughout the Local are being disciplined under this attendance policy.  Unjustly, in my opinion.

I also wanted to say what an outstanding job our Membership does on a daily basis.  Flights have been very heavy and continue to be that way.  Due to aging equipment, there are continued issues in all of our cities.  I ask that you all continue to follow procedures and work safely.  As always, look out for your coworkers and take care of each other.  I'll see you in your cities soon.

      BE SAFE

      Kevin Sullivan
