Brothers and Sisters,
We are approaching the busy spring and summer travel season with much uncertainty around us. The good news is Covid cases are way down. My hope is to see mask restrictions lifted in the near future. These Covid times have been very tough on us. Please reach out to fellow members if you see they may be in need. Stress and depression are very real and we need to help each other through these difficult times.
American Airlines has reduced flight schedules slightly due to staffing shortages and inability to retain current employees. Every week on Jetnet, you can see the large amount of transfers being posted. Several locations are hiring off the street. Continue to do the outstanding job you do. Make sure to follow procedures and safety guidelines. We want you to return home the same way you came to work.
The Association has the Attendance Policy grievance and is ready to move it to arbitration. Sick time is given to us for its intended purpose, being sick. We should not be penalized when we have a bonafide sick call or for using our sick time. I'll keep you posted on any updates I receive.
We will be voting on By-law changes in all our cities in the near future. We have made some small changes as the times change and our cities grow. By-laws have been distributed to all cities for review prior to voting.
Another issue of concern is the conflict in Europe. Rising gas prices will have an effect on all of us. My hope is that this will be settled soon through diplomacy. Don't hesitate to reach out with any concerns you may have.
STAY TWU STRONG
